Setting up Cisco Speech Connect for CUCM and Unity 10.X

*This post is assuming your solution already has a working connection between Unity and CUCM with voicemail ports*

  • Call Manager Configuration
  • In CUCM we will need to create a CTI route point to have a dial-able extension to reach the Voice directory handler in Unity.

  1. Go to Device, CTI Route Point, and create a new route point.
  2. Enter the Device name (VDL-CTI), Description (Voice Directory Lookup - CTI), add it to an existing device pool; its corresponding calling search space; location; media resource group and select save.
  3. Select Line 1 to add a new DN to the route point
  4. Use a DN that will not be used within the system then we are going to set the route partition to make sure all phones will have access (normally an all-onnet config of some sort). Fill in the description with Voice Directory Lookup.
  5. Under "Call Forward and Call Pickup Settings" make sure to check the voicemail box for the forward all settings, calling search space can be left at <none>
  6. Last setting to modify is under "Multiple Call/Call Waiting Settings" Set the Maximum number of calls to the number of voice ports you have configured in the system and the busy to less or equal to the max.
  7. Save
  • Unity Configuration
  • In Unity we will need to add the Speech connect ports, setup the Directory handler, and forward the calls made to the CTI route point to the directory handler.
  1. Expand Telephony Integrations Select Speech Connect Port
  2. Choose the connection server you want to add the speech connect ports to (make sure its the server with the voicemail ports already created on it, you can use multiple).
  3. Select the number of ports to add. (these ports will use the voicemail ports when using the voice directory feature, so make sure you have enough ports for both voicemail users and directory look up users)
  4. Save
  5. Expand Call Management and Select Directory Handlers; Click add New
  6. Add a display name (Voice Directory Lookup - Dir), leave extension blank, select the primary partition, check the voice enabled button and save. Once saved there are other options you can modify if needed, feel free to go in and look at those.
  7. Expand Call Routing under the Call Management tree and choose Forwarded Routing Rules
  8. Select add new, enter a display name (Voice Directory Lookup - FRR), and save.
  9. Under the Send Call to check the Directory Handler radial and select the directory handler we created earlier (Voice Directory Lookup - Dir) then under Routing Rule Conditions select add new.
  10. Select the Forwarding Station radial and choose In and put in the extension created on step 4 in the CUCM section.
  11. Save
  • Testing
  • Dial the extension created in step 4 of the CUCM part and it should now forward you to an auto attendant asking you to speak the name of the person you are trying to reach.
